I'm Mike Moreau. I've been a professional guide since 1995. I'm a self taught fly tier and fisherman, and have paid money to tie flies with A.K. Best and review the finer points of casting with Jason Borger. I'm the owner and operator of North-East Flyfishing, a flyfishing guide service, and I tie limited quantities of flies for fly shops throughout the state.
Some of my earliest memories are of riding on my fathers back through the cedar swamps of Michigan's upper peninsula, on the way to a "secret" fishing spot. I couldn't of been more than five years old. I'm of French Canadian descent, born in Escanaba, a yooper at heart.
Although life's road has led me to several different states in pursuit of adventure (and work), a 13 year career in the printing industry, a wife and two fine young boys, I'm back to where I started those many years ago. Northern Michigan, I truly live in heaven. (Well, o.k. the winters can be a little long, but it's where I was meant to be).
Today, my work with the Upper Black River Watershed Restoration Committee as watershed coordinator and this guide service help to keep me on the rivers of northern Michigan more than 150 days a year.
That's not a boast or fictitious number, I've been keeping a journal since 1991.I feel the ideal guide trip should be low pressure and fun, it should be informative and educational, custom tailored to you. Everyone's different and we know that.
Tight lines,
Mike.
